1951 Jaguar XK120 Fixed‑Head Coupe – Nut‑and‑Bolt Restoration

This 1951 Jaguar XK120 Fixed‑Head Coupe is an exceptional example of one of Jaguar’s most celebrated post‑war sports cars. Finished in elegant Birch Grey over black leather, and showing just 03993 miles on the odometer, it has undergone a comprehensive nut‑and‑bolt restoration documented in more than 150 photographs. Retaining its original 3.4‑liter double‑overhead‑camshaft six‑cylinder engine, the car has been tastefully upgraded for improved drivability, making it both a highly collectible classic and a genuinely enjoyable touring machine.

History & Background
Launched at the 1948 London Motor Show, the Jaguar XK120 caused a sensation and immediately established Jaguar as a leader in performance and design. Initially intended as a show car to debut the new XK engine, overwhelming public demand pushed Jaguar into full production. The Fixed‑Head Coupe arrived in 1951, offering a more refined, enclosed version of the already iconic roadster. With its flowing lines, advanced engineering, and impressive performance, the XK120 became one of the most desirable sports cars of the 1950s and remains a cornerstone of Jaguar’s heritage.

This particular example was delivered new through Hornburg and manufactured on October 11, 1951, with despatch on November 14. It has been in long‑term Danish ownership and remains registered in Denmark. The car has passed the Danish Technical Inspection and will not require reinspection until 2027.

Exterior
Finished in Birch Grey, the XK120 presents with the elegant, aerodynamic silhouette that made the model famous. The restoration has been carried out to a very high standard, with excellent paintwork, clean chrome, and precise panel fit. The Fixed‑Head Coupe body style offers a graceful roofline and refined proportions, giving the car a timeless, sophisticated presence.

Interior
The cabin is upholstered in black leather, presenting beautifully and reflecting the quality of the restoration. Classic instrumentation, period switchgear, and the signature XK dashboard layout create an authentic 1950s atmosphere. The interior has been restored with great attention to detail, offering both originality and comfort.

Mechanical Condition
The car retains its original 3.4‑liter inline‑six engine, producing 160 horsepower and delivering the smooth, powerful character that defines the XK series. For improved drivability, the car has been upgraded with a modern 5‑speed manual transmission, front disc brakes, electric engine cooling, and a generator. These enhancements make the XK120 more usable in modern traffic while preserving its classic feel.

A complete inspection and service confirm that the car is in excellent mechanical condition. The original transmission is included, along with a spare wheel. Over the past 20 years, receipts totaling more than 78,500 Euros document the extensive care and restoration invested in this car.

Additional Features
The sale includes:

Full restoration documentation (150 photos)
